As Dan states, “Staying on guard does not just apply to people climbing mountains so they make the proper decisions before things go wrong. It can also be applied to people who are starting to become sedentary. They should be on guard that they are headed down a road where their life choices may quickly become limited because of inactivity.” It’s time to take up Dan’s challenge to challenge yourself with the “what ifs” versus “not anymores.” Trust me; the “what ifs” are far more fun to contemplate and turn into reality.

Staying on Guard speaks to folks that are looking for encouragement to maintain health, or a spark to improve upon what you’re currently doing. It also gives you great direction and tips on how to approach the change.

The author presents the chapters in a very manageable format in which he tells a story, almost always inspirational or thought-provoking and summarizes it with what was learned and five thoughts to help you with that particular topic. This made the book easy to digest over a period of time instead of all in one sitting. I took more notes reading this book than I have in recent history for other non-fiction books I’ve read.

If you’re looking for a spark to provide some challenge in your life, to get yourself back on track or simply to maintain a healthy lifestyle, I recommend this book by Dan Wenker.
